Insomniac is expanding its Las Vegas footprint with plans for a major new live music and events venue inside the Historic Commercial Center, just east of the Las Vegas Strip.
Clark County has set aside up to $10 million for the redevelopment of the former Sahara Event Center at 800 Liberace Avenue. Insomniac is also expected to invest approximately $20 million of its own money into the property, potentially bringing the project to around $30 million.
A New Year-Round Home for Live Music
Early concepts point to a venue built for concerts and special events throughout the year. Preliminary plans include a main floor with capacity for around 5,000 guests, along with an upstairs lounge designed for a 21-and-over crowd.
The project would give Insomniac a permanent home base in a city that has become deeply connected to the brand through Electric Daisy Carnival, EDC Week and countless electronic music events.
A Venue With Serious Music History
The building already has a remarkable past. Before becoming the Sahara Event Center, it was known as the Ice Palace and hosted major artists including Led Zeppelin, the Grateful Dead and Bob Marley during the 1960s and 1970s.
Insomniac’s redevelopment could now bring a completely new chapter to the historic space, blending its musical legacy with Las Vegas’ modern electronic music scene.
The project is not finalized yet. Clark County’s funding will only be released after a formal agreement is approved between Insomniac and the county’s Redevelopment Agency. No official venue name or opening date has been announced.
